Girls Night out at the Miscowaubik Club

Last evening I took Annie and three of her friends as well as Rachel and two of her friends out to dinner at the Miscowaubik Club in Calumet.  Annie and her girls will be graduating from MTU soon and Rachel and her possee will be graduating from High School this Spring, so I thought I'd treat them to a special night out.

The Miscowaubik opened in the early 1900's as a private club for the copper mining leaders and other individuals from Claumet.  The Miscowaubik continues to maintain it's private status today, over one hundred years later.  Their food is always fantastic, probably the best you can get in the Keweenaw.  They feature Sunday brunch each week, a prime rib buffet on many Friday evenings and a lot of fun Club parties throughout the year.  It is a superb place to host parties for any occasion.  We go there quite often.  My good friend David, none other than the Anabolic Gourmet is the current club president.  Let Foodie Mama know if you are interested in being a member.

So, last evening we reserved the upstairs area for our party.  The Miscowaubik is a wonderful historic building and the members and board of directors ensure that it is always kept up.  This is the first of many blogs about the Misco, I am sure, so I will only focus on the upstairs dining and lounge area, and of course, the great food we had.

Lemon Drops

The Over 21 Group

We had some drinks in the lounge before dinner, Annie and her group and I enjoyed a lemon drop.  Chilled vodka in a sugar lined cordial glass, served with a lemon.  It is drank just like a tequila shot, licking the sugar, drinking the shot, and biting into the lemon.

The underage girls had kiddie cocktails or a coke.

After our social time, we moved into the dining area. and sat at our big beautiful oval table, large enough for 16.

Formal Private Dining Room

Hey, Will, this is "Girl's Night'!

Now for the menu.  When I spoke to Michelle, the steward of the Club, I asked for a limited menu for our small party.  I selected Filet Mignon, Salmon Trio, Chicken Picatta and Pasta Primavera as our four options.  Michelle had printed up a special menu for the event.

Each entree came with a choice of garden or Caesar salad.
Caesar Salad

The Filet Mignon was 7 oz and was topped with sauteed mushrooms and served with a side of vegetables and smashed redskin potatoes.  The filet was definitely the most popular choice of the night, with six of our party ordering it.

Erin and I chose the Salmon Trio, a lovely dish with fresh Atlantic salmon, scallops, and mussels in a Newberg sauce.  It was served with a side of rice pilaf.  It was wonderful!  Last time it was served with shrimp rather than the mussels, but I loved the change.

The last entree item that was ordered by our group was the pasta primavera.  Elayne is a vegetarian so that was her choice.  No one chose the Chicken picatta.  There is always next time!

For dessert, we ordered creme brulee and chocolate lava cake with coffee.  A great way to end a nice evening.  FIVE STARS for sure for the Misco.

Good luck to all the girls with their future plans!
