Memorial Day Getaway: Chefusion and the Creamery, Green Bay, WI

Our nephew graduated this weekend from Libertyville HS in Illinois; it was a very large school in a Chicago suburb.  510 graduates!  Quite a difference from the 50 or so we have commence each Spring in Hancock, MI.

We had Chicago Deep Dish pizza from Lou Malgnatti's (yum) for the Grad Party and on our way back home, we spent a night in Green Bay and visited with Ron's sister for a day.  Downtown Green Bay seems to be awakening somewhat; there are several restaurants and shops on the river and also, many of the previously abandoned and boarded buildings in the downtown streets have been re-purposed as trendy apartments and eateries.

We went to a small plates restaurant and  Jazz club.  The place was called Chefusion.  It is an eclectic and nicely upscale place located on the 2nd floor on an old downtown building.  The food and atmosphere were great.  I had a three course small plate meal consisting of choices of first course, entree and dessert.  I also added lobster bisque for a pre-first-course.  After the bisque, I had a lovely twist on a Cobb salad with cabbage, garbanzos, almonds, a sweet dressing and pecans.  For my entree I had mussels, shrimp and crab in a tomato-ey, spicy sauce.  I chose the gluten free salted caramel cheesecake for dessert.  A great place to go and meet friends for drinks and a meal ranging from tiny to full, depending on what your mood.  Service and prices were great also.  I'd recommend.

In the morning, we found a cafe on the river called The Creamery Downtown.  It featured a trendy upscale breakfast and brunch menu 'a la quail eggs' and such.  I found a delicious open face lox choice, with picked veggies, hard cooked egg, caper infused cream cheese, greens and pumpernickel.  I also had a fab Chai Latte.  We sat outside as the weather was gorgeous.  This was a pleasant place; the service was only so-so but not so terrible that I would not recommend.

Home sweet home today to recoup on Memorial Day.  SUMMER is finally here.
